Project snapshot

This small Acacia Ridge property was in great need of an overhaul to accommodate the needs of a growing family.

Cramped, dated, cheap, and ill-designed are not great adjectives to describe a bathroom. The only ‘wow’ in this bathroom was the great natural light streaming through the louvres which offered very friendly street views. We remodeled the bathroom to take advantage of this feature.

presite process

Survey

As this was an internal renovation, no survey was required.

preliminary design

The cheapest solution would have been to keep the existing placement of the shower and the vanity. However, this was not going to provide the best outcome. As the house is high set, it is not a significant cost difference to relocate the fixtures.

Engineering

No engineering was required, as all the walls were kept in the original location.

certification

No certification was required.

Construction

Due to the existing conditions of the site, being a cramped small room with wonky walls full of asbestos, great care had to be taken to prepare the space before we could start to watch the much anticipated space take shape.

The existing walls were straightened, a handy little nib wall was built in the shower to offer a bit of convenient and stylish shelving, and the space was starting to look like a bathroom.

The most exciting part of the process was each day seeing the tiler place those beautiful tiles on the wall. It was a week-long process as the tiler matched the grain on the tiles to create a calmly considered pattern across the side wall of the shower.
